The phenomenon named for Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, is the change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a light beam is deflected by molecules.
The Main Idea
When a beam of light traverses a dust-free, transparent sample of a chemical compound, a small fraction of the light emerges in directions other than that of the incident (incoming) beam. Most of this scattered light is of unchanged wavelength. A small part, however, has wavelengths different from that of the incident light. The presence of these wavelengths is due to the Raman effect.
A Mathematical Model
What are the mathematical equations that allow us to model this topic. For example [math]\displaystyle{ {\frac{d\vec{p}}{dt}}_{system} = \vec{F}_{net} }[/math] where p is the momentum of the system and F is the net force from the surroundings.
